Note: Higher education degree requirements include 31 credit hours including distribution requirements (Groups I, II and III), FWIS and LPAP courses. In some cases, courses that meet FWIS or distribution requirements may also meet other requirements, such as the Diversity Analysis (DA) requirement or some of the student`s self-declared major, minor, or certificate requirements. Additional credit hours to complete the academic requirements include general electives, courses completed in high school, residency (hours at Rice), and/or other additional academic program requirements. To meet the capstone requirement, students must complete MEOS 404 within the final year after completing at least half of the core requirements. What do you define as effective? Management studies will have little or no impact on entry to higher education. If cinema is the path you want to go and the Rice program/education/culture suits you, then you`re all set.
All students majoring in management studies must also complete at least one of the established departmental or interdepartmental majors that are not a field major. Management studies are not the equivalent of an undergraduate business major at other universities.

The interdisciplinary bachelor`s degree, formerly known as Management Studies (MANA), has been revised with increased academic requirements to become a separate major. (Previously, MANA was only an option as a major second.) It was approved by the faculty senate on April 21 and will be housed in the Department of Economics. George Zodrow, president and professor of economics, said the new major combines the best elements of degrees in social sciences and economics. Courses will focus on everything from methods of economic and statistical analysis to management communication and broader topics in the social sciences. “The structure of the new program ensures that students acquire the concepts and skills that are essential to effective business management and leadership,” he said.
