Ignoring it often does nothing to stop bullying, and it can get worse over time. [119] It may be important to address bullying behaviour early on, as the earlier it is detected, the easier it can be to control. [120] Bystanders play an important role in responding to bullying, as doing nothing can encourage them to continue, while small steps that counteract the behaviour can reduce it. [121] In addition to communicating clear expectations that bystanders should intervene and increasing individual self-efficacy, a growing body of research suggests that interventions should be based on the fact that bullying is morally wrong. In extreme cases where the client`s expectations of the lawyer place him or her in a compromised professional and ethical position, the lawyer may have to tell the client that he or she will no longer act for him. This type of workplace assault is particularly challenging because, unlike typical forms of bullying in schools, bullies in the workplace often follow the established rules and policies of their organization and society.
